buy custom Total Rewards essay
buy custom Total Rewards essay Total rewards refer to all the tools available to the employer that may be used to motivate, attract and retain employees. It includes what the employee perceives to be valuable resulting from the employment relationship. Employers have always had a challenge of how to motivate, attract and retain their employees (Blackburn Perry, 2007). Describe each of the top five (5) advantages of a total rewards approach Increased flexibility Both employees and employers desire more of the flexibility. As the benefit of flexibility has already become a bit understood, more business are allowing their employees to determine their time of work, where they would like to work, and how they would wish to work. Total rewards considers what their employees want, and in most instances demand, the capability to integrate their work and their lifestyle. Improved Recruitment and Retention Today, workers are focusing beyond the big picture as they decide where they would wish to work. Personal life and work should be looked at as related priorities, and not competing ones. When an organization helps its employees run both their work and personal lives, the workers feel a greater commitment to the company. In addition, a lot of studies have shown that workers look at total rewards when deciding on whether to stay or join with an organization. Healthcare Coverage This is a piece of a total rewards typical package that encompasses all vision, medical and dental and still long-term and long-term disability insurance that is offered by an employer. Retirement Programs Retirement programs that are offered in the total rewards packages can include non-matching or matching 402 (k) accounts. In large corporations, a profit sharing and purchasing stock program may be offered as well. Financial Compensation Workers compensation mainly consists of the base salary, merit and overtime increases. This still includes incentives compensation like bonuses. Describe five (5) common ways a total rewards strategy can go astray. Although total rewards strategy builds up healthy relationships with employers and the employees, it can also go astray; Feeling of dissatisfaction or discrimination among employees. If the employees feel that the reward assessment process might not be transparent. Staff morale might fall if there is a big difference in reward being paid out to an individual doing similar work. Staff may become very focused on people earning those rewards that they forget to work in the very best interests of the whole team. Competition can be fair but if its too aggressive it may be detrimental. Always there will be a judgment element required to administer the system. Somebody have to rate the staffs performance. This judgment might end up being a bit subjective rather than being objective. Some functions are in nature support roles (and therefore might not attract much rewards as some other roles like sales). There must be a fair balance of rewards for these support staff or they will not feel any appreciation. Describe the six (6) steps in designing a total rewards program. Coming up with a total rewards program specific to an institutions requires some initial homework in establishing a baseline of what one can already offer and in developing a bit more strategic approach towards rewards. Inventory rewards. Conduct a detailed, accurate and full inventory of rewards that are currently offered by the institution that normally fall into five elements of ROW model. This type of inventory should involve both informal programs and formal practices. Some of this type of information is obviously available but most of it requires investigation, particularly in big, decentralized institutions. Consider focus teams as a way to recognize the rewards and to provide interest and commitment in this process through the institution. Measure investment. To your level best, calculate the latest level of investment in each and every element to come up with a baseline and to make changes. In some of the cases, the measurement will definitely help gauge competitiveness (benefits, salary etc.) and also investment. In some other cases, the cost of institution of the reward may be measured but shaping competitiveness will be more difficult. Increasing information. Through a clear communication, employees realize the full suite of the rewards that are available to them. Link total rewards strategy towards institutional strategy, and consider making a distinctive logo and name. Use your strategy that is customized as a base for measuring workers satisfaction, engagement and understanding through surveys and some other workers feedback techniques. Implement improvements. Execution and implementation are essential to a realized total rewards program. Vague practices, unclear communication and inconsistent implementation contribute to less-than-effective program. Setting priorities for enhancing or developing rewards and communicating improvements will automatically demonstrate a commitment of the institution to employees. Measure impact. A total rewards program constitutes a vibrant plan. Keeping the plans relevance needs regular review of the institutions external influences and initiatives. A review of the strategys effectiveness requires to be incorporated in the routine planning processes in which your institution often conducts. This is a very different process of measurement than the expenditures measurement. Involve the community. Involve faculty, staff and leadership in understanding the total rewards program and how it usually supports the overall institutions strategic direction. This goes far beyond communicating the real program. Illustrate the inks among new initiatives and strategies. Make use surveys to recognize what is valued or is not valued. Take the opportunity to refresh and review the strategy by finding input from those that are most impacted. Broad understanding and involving will help in ensuring the continuity of relevance of total rewards program to the institution. Describe the eight (8) steps in the communication process. Understand the funcction of the communication. Regardless of the issue, communication should be designed with a specific goal. It should then be implemented expressly to obtain some result. That result may be increasing awareness. It might also be generating a certain action. Regardless of whatever purpose, communication should not just "happen." If you cannot discover a reason for communicating, you shouldn't then communicate. Encourage the internal customers to come together and discuss the issue. This is not however an easy task. Everyone might be busy, and most often your customers will need you to "do something." To overcome the resistance, you have to present solid benefits of making the time to step back and then think of the best way of address the issue. Gather the additional input. Depending on the sensitivity, level of controversy or complexity of an issue, you may wish to gather some additional input from the other people within the organization. You might wish to poll the workers to determine their latest level of knowledge concerning an issue. You may need to hold focus teams to uncover the potential misperceptions or biases. The more you become aware of an issue, the better you will be in a position to present it accurately and knowledgeably. Identify the audiences. Audience is not "everybody." For communication to be more effective, it should be targeted. That is, if you want to communicate something about budget cuts, the information that you share with the managers will be a bit different from information that you share with the frontline customers or staff. Even among the employee groups, the variations may need different communication tools or different messages. For instance, off-site staff might not have a ready access towards the business intranet and will therefore need to get the hard copy information or information by phone (Blackburn, 2007). Create "key messages." Identify messages that are most important for you to convey. Focus and be succinct on "need to know" that is based on outcomes that you're looking for. Don't try conveying too much, or else you will confuse your audience. Just hit the most high points. Develop a timeline. The order by which you can inform the audiences can be critical. For instance, if one put a notice in the employee newsletter concerning a benefit change before having informed the managers about that change, the managers might feel that he or she has been undermined and in a disadvantage when involves answering employee questions. Develop a plan. Considering the timelines, audiences and messages that you have developed, make a written plan outlining the communication processes and tools that you will be using. The plans include the background, the messages and target the audiences you have identified. You will also need to detail the tact that are specific that you will use in conveying your messages. Start inside first. Your workers are a beneficial audience for the communication messageseven the marketing messages concerning the products and services. The more they know and understand them, the more they will help you exactly share your messages. Buy custom Total Rewards essay

The Eponymy Family
The Eponymy Family The Eponymy Family The Eponymy Family By Maeve Maddox The suffix -nym means name. The word eponym comes from Greek eponymos, ââ¬Å"given as a name; bestowing a name on something.â⬠eponym: noun. The person for whom a country or location is named. For example, Romulus is the legendary eponym of Rome. Simà ³n Bolivar is the known eponym of Bolivia. eponym: noun. A proper name used generically; more loosely, the generic name itself, or any noun phrase of specific meaning which includes a proper name. For example, Marxism: a theory and practice of socialism developed by or associated with Karl Marx; ohm: a unit of electrical resistance. eponymism: noun. the practice of accounting for names of places or peoples by referring them to supposed prehistoric eponyms. In the Middle Ages, writers claimed Brutus of Troy as the eponym of Britain and the British people. eponomy: noun. another word for eponymism. eponymize: v. (trans.) to serve as eponym to. For example, the name Benedict Arnold has become an eponym for traitor. eponymous: adjective. referring to an eponym. For example, Jane Eyre is the eponymous heroine of the novel by Charlotte Bronte. Another word used for eponymous is eponymic. Many eponyms derive from Greek or Roman religious belief and practice. For example, the first six months of the year: January: Named for Janus, the Roman god of gates and doorways, depicted with two faces looking in opposite directions February: Named for Februa, Roman festival of purification held in that month. March: Named for Mars, Roman god of war. April: The name came from an Etruscan word associated with Aphrodite, Greek goddess of love and beauty. May: Named for Maia, the great one,â⬠Italic goddess of spring and daughter of Faunus. June: Named for Juno, principal Roman goddess and patroness of women and marriage. Her month is still popular with brides. Many plant names derive from the names of the people who introduced them to their own cultures. The poinsettia is named for Joel Roberts Poinsett (1779-1851), U.S. ambassador to Mexico. German botanist Johann G. Zinn gave his name to the zinnia. Both the begonia and the bougainvillea received their names from Frenchmen: Michel Bà ©gon (1638ââ¬â1710), and Louis Antoine de Bougainville (1729ââ¬â1811). A plant derivative, nicotine, takes its name from another Frenchman: Jean Nicot de Villemain (1530-1600). A great many discoveries and practical inventions have been named for people who had little to do with them. Thereââ¬â¢s even a law for that: Stiglerââ¬â¢s Law of Eponymy. University of Chicago statistics professor Stephen Stigler postulated the law in an article published in 1980. The law states, ââ¬Å"No scientific discovery is named after its original discoverer.â⬠Here are some examples of the truth of Stiglerââ¬â¢s law: America: named for Americo Vespucci, but discovered by others. Arabic numerals: invented in India. Fibonacci numbers: existed in Indian mathematics a thousand years earlier than Fibonacci. Greshamââ¬â¢s law: described by Nicolaus Copernicus the year Gresham was born. Halleyââ¬â¢s comet: observed by astronomers in ancient times. Higgs boson: named for Peter Higgs, but first theorized by Robert Brout and Francois Englert. Stiglerââ¬â¢s Law of Eponymy: derives from sociologist Robert K. Mertonââ¬â¢s postulation of the Matthew effect (another eponym). Merton studied the reward system in science and concluded that famous scientists receive disproportionate credit for their contributions. Conversely, lesser known scientists receive less credit than they deserve. Merton called this the Matthew effect. He took the name from the gospel of Matthew: For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken even that which he hath.25:29, KJV. In modern, noneponymous terms, ââ¬Å"the squeaking wheel gets the oil.â⬠Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Get a subscription and start receiving our writing tips and exercises daily! Hypothetical Research Designs Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Hypothetical Designs - Research Paper Example The researcher states that in a research study, a good hypothesis is considered to have such opportunities, which will help to uncover new ideas or knowledge for the researcher. If the researcher does not learn something new by the hypothesis developed with the help of research questions, then it would be futile. There are three types of research design; they are qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods. The quantitative and qualitative designs are not the extreme opposite form of research designs; rather they represent different areas of research. The mixed research method is the combination of both the methods, so it balances both. The general difference between qualitative and quantitative hypothesis is that the qualitative hypothesis includes closed-ended questions and quantitative hypothesis includes the use of numbers. The qualitative hypothesis includes exploring the social and human behavior in relation to the problem areas. The quantitative research method deals with test ing the problems by analyzing the numbers, statistics or financial reports. It is logical and can help the researcher to prove his/ her results logically. The mixed method combines the philosophical assumptions as well as the facts and figures. There are two components that can be involved while developing a research design that is the philosophical assumptions and the distinct procedure. The philosophical assumptions include the worldwide study that has been conducted on the problems or topic and the distinct procedure involves the type of hypothesis used to develop the research design.

The Contribution of Theodore Roosevelt to the issue of conservation Essay
The Contribution of Theodore Roosevelt to the issue of conservation - Essay Example ment and thus put the set aside conservation area under protection in order to protect and conserve the different species that were there of nature (Brinkley 56). As a result of the love he had for the environment and its conservation, he not only set aside land and ensured the protection of the species but also developed some of the farmlands in the Westside of America that were near natural resources in a bid to also protect them for not only the then current generation but also the future ones. The fruits of his hard work in conservation are still being experienced up to date. In order to ensure that his conservation legacy stays for long, he put his environmental conservation ideas and wishes to writing. These included even conservation of the soil, water, forests and even the areas of recreation. He used his presidential influence to build up other environmental conservatives and conservation groups and hence became a role model. The next presidents after him also became challenged and hence bid to continue his legacy. This included even Presidents Carter and

The Sixth Challenge of Vision 2020 Essay Example for Free
The Sixth Challenge of Vision 2020 Essay The sixth challenge of vision 2020 is to form a scientific ââ¬âoriented and progressive society. A scientific, oriented and progressive society is a society that is fully inventive and creative, forward-looking, optimism, generous and provides a technological civilization in the future. The reason why I think the sixth challenge cannot be met because of the identification of race with economic function, and the recognition of race in economic backwardness. Identification of race with economic scale implies that the income of individual is not equal; the crisis of disparity between races is significant. Each race will have their own economic worth due to the individual upbringing and education, economic preferences and effort therefore they received different financial reward. An equality of income between races is not possible and not achievable. On the other hand, the sixth challenge cannot be meet on year 2020 is because of lack of skill labors in the society. Young Malaysians seek to study and work abroad and this create a shortage of skill labor which slowed down the growth of the country. Others countries provide better wages, career opportunity, environment and education than Malaysia such as neighbor Singapore. Therefore, it is hard to develop a scientific society by year 2020 if there is a shortage in skilled labors, potential and technologies. To overcome the challenge, 1 Malaysia concept must be strongly built up in every raceââ¬â¢s mindset to reduce racial politics in the country. The society should accept and tolerances among people of different races, and have a mutual respect for each citizens within the country. Government should allocated resources appropriately to reduce the racist crisis. Next, government should also focus on the level of wages and allowance pay to the skilled labor to reduce the capital loss of country. Government should increase the project of development of the country to provide more career opportunities to the citizens.

An Introduction to the CYC Knowledge Base Essay -- CYC Project Technol
An Introduction to the CYC Knowledge Base I. Abstract This paper is intended to be an introductory tutorial on the Very Large Knowledge Base (VLKB) called CYC. Described herein is the reasoning for the origination of the CYC project, the intended usefulness of the project (application areas), how CYC is being constructed, and a brief introduction to the supporting tools that have been developed to interact with the CYC knowledge base. II. Introduction Many Knowledge Bases (KB) have been developed to help people solve problems in very specific applications. These are relatively simple to build since the knowledge required by the specific system needs to be only those facts required to solve the problem in that particular application. An example of this type of KB would be one that contains only the information needed to diagnose particular fungal and bacterial infections. The KB would need to know about the different attributes of the microscopic organisms and their affects on the host but would not need to know that the grass is green or that the earth revolves around the sun. The CYC common sense Knowledge Base takes the opposite approach. CYC is being created to hold information that most people would consider to be common sense knowledge. The idea is to create a KB that would supply the basic knowledge needed to be applicable to many different applications. By building a KB with this general knowledge, it is hoped that the KB will be able to learn (create new inferences) by itself and be able to tell when it does not have enough information in a particular domain to resolve a problem. The CYC project was started by Doug Lenat at MCC (Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation, now Cycorp, Inc.) in Aust... ...nology", Cycorp, Inc, http://www.cyc.com Ginsberg, Matthew L., Essentials of Artificial Intelligence. How to Live a Greener Lifestyle Essay
More people have paid attention to sustainable environment. This essay will introduce how to live a greener life which can be applied by each person living on earth. The behavior of greener lifestyle includes food, clothing, living and transports. These 4 parts also regarded as 4 basic need of human. First, food and clothes make a great difference for both saving source and reducing waste. Food can be divided into 2 parts vegetable and meat, once meat is produced, at the same time, animals have spent air, land, and especially much water, which means meat uses more resources than vegetable, so person should limit the frequency of eating meat. As for apparel, modern media always spread what fashion is, however, what does fashion teach the public? Fashion tells people to stay ââ¬Å"freshâ⬠, which encourage consumers to buy more clothes than they need. In order to follow fashion, trendsetter and the consumer could never stop shopping each year and each season. Almost everything in fashion is cyclical, a dress which has been owned would become ââ¬Å"outâ⬠in a short time. A greener lifestyle bans buying clothes if you do not need. Second, the choice of where you are living is a factor to greener lifestyle. People who are looking forward to bigger house are not living a green life. Because the bigger living space is, the more resources must be used to adjust the temperature. The habit of using heating equipment or air-condition is common in daily life, living in a small space can both save money and energy. The last part that a greener lifestyle asks for is transport. Citizens should decrease using private car, what a greener life is taking public transport such as subway, bus or train as much as possible, in this way, each private car owner would save his part which spends oil and release toxic gas. After following these step above, people all around the earth would live a greener lifestyle. Eating more vegetables, buying clothes sanely, not pursuing bigger house and taking public transport are easy to perform.

The Impact of African American Stereotypes
Many of us have received a meager education about African-Americans. In fact, many people have no clue about African Americans beyond the information we have been given in the media. The result has been that most whites possess a distorted image of African-Americans. This not only limits a person's worldview, but this is also dangerous. The media has no incentive to present accurate, much less positive, images of African-Americans. This is nothing new, but the inaccuracies have a greater impact on the lives of black people. Throughout history, black men have been presented as beastly savage. For example, in the movie ââ¬Å"Jersey Drive,â⬠the blacks are portrayed as a bunch of violent thieves who thrive from stealing othersâ⬠cars. Often, in the past they were shown as subhuman beings preying on the fragile white woman. With the advent of radio and television, black men were depicted as buffoons and criminals. Today, few images are presented, showing what black men are really like. For instance, Denzel Washington who is a brilliant actor, as well as a successful businessman in todayâ⬠s society is a great image. Unfortunately, it is easier for most people who are not black to build their assumptions from media depictions rather than to go out and to meet the actual people. These images have contributed to the most violent behavior against black men that this country has ever seen. Over the course of the twentieth century, thousands of black men were lynched for often false rape allegations by white women. Black men have been repeatedly denied access to opportunities for education and employment. To this day, black men remain perceived as a ââ¬Å"threatâ⬠and are the targets of sometimes fatal acts of police brutality. It is not a coincidence that African American men are imprisoned and given stiffer sentences than their white counterparts. Black men are not the only victims of harmful stereotypes. Black women are perceived as pillars of strength. This is a perception that a number of black women are proud to accept. The black women we see in the media tend to be powerful, nurturing figures. With the exception of a handful of supermodels, black women are often viewed as unattractive by the popular American beauty standards. An overwhelming view of black women is that they are stern, perhaps even domineering. To illustrate, In ââ¬Å"Soul Food,â⬠the females are in charge of keeping the family together through all the struggles. These images of black women have led traditional society to ignore the real concerns of black women. Perhaps, they tend to be depicted as superhuman creatures. Black women are seen as being able to withstand any personal tragedy and to emerge totally prepared to face the demands of life. In summation, few of us received educations about African Americans. Throughout history, black men have been presented as beastly. Also, Black women have been perceived as stone walls of strength, powerful, and nurturing figures. Few people take time to see the truth behind these stereotypes. If we really want to know about African Americans, the education that personal interaction and books provide are much more insightful than the mediaâ⬠s misrepresentations.

The #1 Rule for Filling Out Your Walmart Application
The #1 Rule for Filling Out Your Walmart Application SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Applying for a Walmart career? Want your Walmart application to stand out? Filling out the Walmart online application can be a little confusing. In addition to normal application questions about your background, the Walmart application asks you to complete a "Pre-Employment Assessment test." This 65-question test will HUGELY affect your chances of starting a Walmart career. In this guide, Iââ¬â¢ll tell you where to find the Walmart online application. Even better, I'll explain the key to acing the Walmart Pre-Employment Assessment Test, so you have the best chance possible of getting a Walmart job. How to Find the Walmart Online Application for Retail Work First things first, how do you find Walmart employment? Head on over to the Walmart.com jobs website. The website will take you through a few steps to find a Walmart job near you. Once youââ¬â¢ve located a job near you, the application is split into two main sections: background information and the pre-employment assessment. The background information section is pretty simple. It just asks you to enter information about where you live, how to contact you, your education, your previous employment history, etc. Simply follow the steps on the website, and answer every question truthfully. Once youââ¬â¢ve completed the background information portion, youââ¬â¢ll be re-directed to the Walmart Pre-Employment Assessment. How to Ace the Walmart Pre-Employment Assessment The second part of the Walmart application is the Pre-Employment Assessment, a 65-question test split into four sections. In the first section, youââ¬â¢ll be presented with various work-related situations and youââ¬â¢ll need to select the most appropriate response. Below are examples of these types of questions from the actual Walmart job application. The second section asks you to rate the effectiveness of certain work actions on a scale of 1-5 for effectiveness. In the third section, youââ¬â¢re presented with statements, and you need to select how much you agree or disagree with it. The fourth section asks you about your past experience. The Pre-Employment Assessment is graded pass/fail. You have to complete and pass the test to be considered for a Walmart job. Therefore, you need to do well, but how? The #1 most important rule to remember to ace the test is that quality customer service is very important to Walmart. Consider that before answering any questions. Iââ¬â¢ll walk you through a sample question from each section and show you how to apply this rule to answer the question. Section 1 sample question: ââ¬Å"One of your customers has just said to you, ââ¬ËThe service here is terrible.ââ¬â¢ You should say:â⬠ââ¬Å"What is it about the service that you have not liked?â⬠ââ¬Å"Would you like to fill out a complaint form? I can get one for you.â⬠ââ¬Å"I realize our service is poor today. We are understaffed, so I apologize.â⬠ââ¬Å"I am really sorry to hear you say that, but we are trying as hard as we can.â⬠If you think what would quality customer service be, then youââ¬â¢d probably realize that just apologizing is not the best choice. You want to learn WHAT it is that was bad, and figure out how you can improve it. Therefore, Iââ¬â¢d eliminate C and D. B is good but not very personal. A shows the customer you care and want to help. Therefore, A is the best choice in terms of quality customer service, so Iââ¬â¢d choose A. Section 2 sample question: Rate the following action listed for dealing with an angry customer who has come to you with a complaint on a scale of 1-5 for effectiveness (1 being very ineffective, 5 being very effective): ââ¬Å"Outlining reason why the customerââ¬â¢s concern is not right.â⬠If I, the employee, tell the customer that they shouldnââ¬â¢t be angry and that their complaint is not valid, that will likely make the customer angrier. It certainly wonââ¬â¢t make the customer happy and wonââ¬â¢t make them feel like theyââ¬â¢re being appreciated or listened to. Imagine if you went to a store yourself and was angry - would you like if it the staff member told you why you were wrong? Probably not. Therefore, it would be bad customer service, so I think itââ¬â¢d be very ineffective. Iââ¬â¢d give it a 1. Section 3 sample question: Rate the following for how much you agree or disagree on a scale of 1-5 (1 being strongly disagree, 5 being strongly agree): ââ¬Å"I enjoy spending the time to find answers to difficult questions.â⬠If Walmart cares about quality customer service, then they want all Walmart employees to answer all customer questions. If a customer presents you with a difficult question, then Walmart expects you to find the answer. If you say you hate spending time answering hard questions, Walmart may think you wonââ¬â¢t help customers. Therefore, Iââ¬â¢d guess they want you to enjoy spending time answering questions. Iââ¬â¢d say 5 strongly agree. Section 4 sample question: ââ¬Å"You have typically set work standards that were aimed:â⬠ââ¬Å"Above average as compared to other employees.â⬠ââ¬Å"At the same level as other employees.â⬠ââ¬Å"At achieving the highest quality possible.â⬠ââ¬Å"At completing the largest quantity of work.â⬠Again, Walmart cares about quality customer service. Therefore, they care about high quality work. Using this logic, A or C is probably the best answer. If you compare A and C, A simply says the work standard is above average while C says the work standard is aimed at achieving the highest quality possible. C is the better choice because itââ¬â¢s stronger than A. The customer should always be happy. Summary: How to Start Your Walmart Career If you're looking to work at Walmart, remember the following key points: You can find Walmart jobs and start filling out the Walmart application at the Walmart.com jobs website. There are two parts to the Walmart application: provide your background information and answer a Pre-Employment Assessment. You need to pass the Pre-Employment Assessment in order to be eligible for a Walmart job. When working through the assessment always keep the principles of excellent customer service in mind.

How to Remain Productive When Working Remotely
How to Remain Productive When Working Remotely According to recent Stanford University research, more than 10% of the U.S. workforce now works remotely or from home. This setup can be beneficial for everyone- managers get more productive workers due to eliminating a commute time,à and workers get to concentrate on their duties without too much micromanaging from their bosses. Working from home in your pajamas sounds lovely, doesnââ¬â¢t it? You get to get your job done while throwing in loads of laundry in your coffee breaks. But being super-close to all the trappings of your home life- or just being far away from all your colleagues and supervisors- can be distracting and have an isolating effect. To make sure youââ¬â¢re maximally productive ââ¬Å"on the job,â⬠even when at home, follow these handy tips.1. Set your hours.Pencil in the hours when you will be ââ¬Å"at work.â⬠These hours donââ¬â¢t have to be 9-5, but they do have to suit your working/living needs and schedule and not conflict with the needs o f your boss. Once you set them, stick to them. Donââ¬â¢t plan long lunches or personal appointments during these hours. Treat it like a time card. If you prefer to break up the day into chunks, make sure those chunks are long enough to be productive (say 3 hours) to get some work done.2. Designate an office.Even if you live somewhere cramped and canââ¬â¢t have ââ¬Å"an office,â⬠at least mark off some sort of work station or area for yourself. Turn off the television, and try to get off the couch or your bed. Head to the same spot to work each day. Train your brain that this area is where your job happens, and the rest of your house is where your life happens.3. Donââ¬â¢t forget to get outside.Donââ¬â¢t go skipping around the block regularly during your work hours, mind you- unless itââ¬â¢s just for a wee stroll to get the blood moving. But do try and make sure that you arenââ¬â¢t spending all day and night, every day and night, at home. Make after-work plans , or incorporate out-of-the-house exercise at some point.4. Plan your days out each morning.Make to-do lists for yourself of all the work tasks you need or want to accomplish in a given day. Then figure out how to ration out your day to complete them. This will keep you from veering off task, even when distractions present themselves. Donââ¬â¢t procrastinate, and youââ¬â¢ll stand a good chance of getting things done.5. Minimize online (and other) distractions. The less time you spend surfing Reddit or falling down the rabbit hole of social media, the better and more productive you will be. Use programs like Freedom or Self Control to keep you off the Internet during your work hours.6. Take care of yourself.Make sure you get on a steady sleep schedule that complements your work schedule- and stick to it. Get enough sleep. Make sure to shower and put on something other than sweatpants. Eat a good breakfast and healthy lunches and snacks throughout the day. Exercise when you can t o keep your blood and brain flowing.7. Demand a quiet space. You might have to tell your friends and family to leave you the heck alone during your business hours. Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 68
Assignment Example The clock was ticking fast on this particular day and at exactly 9 AM. We left our school and headed for the event. The kick off time for the event was expected to be at exactly 10. AM and was targeted to cover three schools in the neighborhood. It was organized by the peer educatorsââ¬â¢ group from my school and I requested for an opportunity to offer a speech and this was granted to me. The organizers for the event therefore were my schoolââ¬â¢s peers educators group and the intended audience was the students from the three targeted high schools. I had not figured out that my speech would be a source of motivation to the students. It then started with prayers, then followed speech from two guest speakers and finally my time came. This was the first day in my whole life that I had to address such a big audience. As I walked to the stage, I broke out in a cold sweat and so I had to take a quick breath as my mother had constantly advised. I then felt at ease and was able to star t telling my story. ââ¬Å"We are all unique and so our strengths, weaknesses and abilities,â⬠I said. I gained composure at this moment when everyone turned their attention to listening to me and I started with explaining how I lost my self worth due to the fact that I could not have artistic abilities as my brothers had and how this led me to performing poorly in my academics. I continued telling of how the decline in academic performance led me to receiving negative comments from my high school teachers and friends and how I started believing in this comments. I explained how everyone thought that I was a disappointment to my family, how I stopped believing my parents when they told me that I was unique and that I had a special ability, other than the artistic ability that my brothers possessed. ââ¬Å"I then resulted to isolating myself from my friends who could at that moment perform better than I could and I ended up in a state of self denialâ⬠. I explained how my academic performance

Christina of Markyate Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Christina of Markyate - Essay Example Christina was educated which also made her unusual for her time period. Through a unique biography written during her time, Christina has become immortal through literary history in the story of her life and of the many ways in which she fought to hold true to her virtue in order to serve God. The book, The Life of Christina of Markyate: A Twelfth Century Recluse is intended to provide readers an insight into the life of a prioress so that they can live by her example. It is believed that the surviving copy of the book was written near the middle of the fourteenth century, perhaps written at St Albans under the direction of John of Tynemouth for a series on the lives of saints that he was assembling. The original text is available which is written in one persons handwriting, although there are notes on the pages from others, and is said to be quite beautiful (Talbot 1). The manuscript, that came to belong to Sir Robert Cotton and was within the Cottonian collection, was damaged durin g the fire of 1731. However, only the first page and the last page seemed to have sustained any significant damage (Talbot 3). The only things that are known of the one who wrote the biography is that he was a monk in the monastery of St. Albans. It is clear that the biography, in its original form, was written by someone who was close to Christina and who was very familiar with Geoffrey de Gorham, the wealthy abbot of St Albans who offered support to Christina. The writer refers to ââ¬Ëour monasteryââ¬â¢, thus creating the impression that the monastery where Christina made her place, St Albans, is also his monastery (Talbot 6). Through the personalized way in which he describes the lives of the characters in her life, it is probable that he knew them all. Christiana was born into an Anglo-Saxon noble family at the end of the 11th century. Her name was originally Theodora, but she changed her name to Christina. Her family was in danger, however, because of the French occupatio n of England and in this situation, the Anglo-Saxon nobility was almost powerless. Christina went with her family to St Alban to pray and the effect that the visit had on her was to turn her devotion to God. She swore her virginal state to God as a devotion to a life in his service. However, a man decided to marry her and asked her father for permission. Her biography suggests a great many ways in which her parents tried to trick her into losing her virginity to her future husband, but through her own tricks and prayer, she was able to keep sacred her virginity (Amt 139). Christina is portrayed as being very intelligent, an intelligence that is recognized by her parents. One of the aspects of Medieval life for women was in the commoditization of their lives. Women were essentially sold into marriage in exchange for whatever the parents of that woman needed, whether that be political considerations, money, or social prestige. Through Christina, her parents could find a match that wou ld benefit their lives. Talbot translates that her biography states ââ¬Å"For if she remained chaste in love of Christ, they feared they would lose her, and all that they could hope to gain through herâ⬠(Talbot 69). As a woman, Christina was intended to be a product rather than a person, an object rather than the subject of her own life. In her refusal to her parents in front of the Fredebertus of the monastery, she states ââ¬Å".
